SOFT RIOT
Soft Riot, consisting solely of JJD, was a founding member of Canadian first-wave post-punk revivalists Radio Berlin (1998-2005) and A Luna Red (Gold Standard Labs, 1999-2003), with Soft Riot surfacing as a solo act in the early 2010s in London, England. Soft Riot has toured Europe numerous times, from Rennes, France all the way east to Moscow, Russia with selected performances in North America. and stages have been shared with peers such as Keluar, Linea Aspera, She Past Away, Section 25, Selofan, Drab Majesty, Lebanon Hanover, Noi Kabát and Robert Görl of Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft. Soft Riot is currently based out of Glasgow, Scotland — a city that JJD has now called home since 2016. With origins from the mid-nineties in the vibrant art-punk/hardcore dominating the West Coast American/Canadian underground at the time (the first EP, No Longer Stranger, is the name of a track by hardcore band Universal Order of Armageddon), JJD followed a trajectory through to the revival of synth-based post-punk music just over a decade or so ago, which spawned a number of highly successful Canadian artists out of that scene.
Soft Riot’s sound is an amalgamation of JJD’s personal experience with music, containing elements of synthesiser-based film soundtracks, romantic italo-style flourishes, throbbing arpeggiations and angular, psychedelic synth-pop all tied together with an underlying tension. It is a science-fiction heavy soundscape that narrates the listener through today’s fractured, excessive landscape with hints of black humour.

STUCK

MONDE UFO
Monde UFO, LA-based duo of Ray Monde and Kris Chau, are a monochromatic sunset for the senses. A sonic journey through psychedelia, space rock and jazz. A cosmic space where Spacemen 3 meets Vanishing Twin, by way of Sun Ra. 7171 perfectly embodies the framework of lo and hi-fi sounds which have helped define the band. Included in this expanded package is 4 Songs, Monde UFO’s radical interpretation of Fugazi’s music, housed for the first time on LTD 7” with new artwork. “Monde UFO wander through a humid mist of exotic samba shuffles, shamanic whispers, and reverberating laser beam synthesizers.”

BLACK ZONE MYTH CHANT
Black Zone Myth Chant is a project of Afrocentric psychedelia and hypnotic footwork by psych-drone artist High Wolf. Sometimes described as “Sun Ra meets Dj Screw”, various Black Zone Myth Chant releases have been released on Low Jack’s label Editions Gravats, including Mane Thecel Phares (ranked 33 in the 2015 albums of the year Boomkat’s charts). The story of the project starts in 2011. Back from the US where he spent some time touring, hanging out with friends and listening to DJ Screw, High Wolf sat down in his studio and, without any plan, recorded Straight Cassette within a couple of days. It was kind of a weird mix of free jazz influences, pitched-down vocals and ambient synthscapes – this first album came out on tape on High Wolf’s DIY label Winged Sun.
Only a few copies of the debut recording were produced and there was no promotion; it was meant for the tape to be ignored and forgotten. But for some reason it slowly gained quite an obscure reputation which lead to a vinyl reissue on the French label Laitbac in 2014. Since then, it’s been more widely rediscovered, and with perfect timing: after thinking Black Zone Myth Chant was the buried project of a sole record, High Wolf, under the influence of Editions Gravats owners Low Jack & Jean Carval, had started to work on a follow up. The said album came out in 2015, entitled Mane, Thecel, Phares. Successfully received both by the press and the audience, it was time for Black Zone Myth Chant to make his live debut.
